Call for Papers
AAWM Music & Nature, Volume 2 (2022)
AAWM Music and Nature is a journal published by the International Foundation for the Theory and Analysis of World Musics research group on alpine musics. It covers a variety of topics in the fields of alpine music, herding and hunting music, and other music in outdoor settings worldwide, from the perspectives of ethnomusicology, history, acoustics, and others.
For this volume, we invite contributions from a wide range of topics and methodologies, including but not limited to:
- Questions of outdoor musical performance from ethnomusicological, historical, and acoustical perspectives.
- Interactions .between music, musicians, and the natural environment such as echo, wind, temperature, flora, and fauna.
- Analysis of timbre of the singing voice and musical instruments.
- Music in the context of herding or hunting.
- Landscape and music.
- Ecomusicological studies with a focus on musical phenomena and how they can contribute to sustainable futures.
AAWM Music and Nature is fully open access (platinum). Submissions which have successfully passed the initial screening are then evaluated by two reviewers using a double-blind peer review process. The main language of AAWM Music and Nature is English. We welcome contributions in other languages within our editorial capacities. Authors who are considering a submission in a language other than English should contact the editors first. The second volume of AAWM Music and Nature will be edited in collaboration with the International Network of Herding Music Scholars (INHMS). This network was founded two years ago by Jennie Tiderman-Österberg (Örebro University, Sweden) and Mitra Jahandideh (Australian National University) with the aim to bring herding (and hunting) music scholars together.
