ANNOUNCING AAAM

Analytical Approaches to African Music

We are very pleased to launch the first issue of the new journal, Analytical Approaches to African Music (AAAM), under the ongoing initiatives and support of IFTAWM. Analytical Approaches to African Music is a multidisciplinary critical forum dedicated to the advancement of theory and analysis on African music.

The journal is open access and is designed to facilitate participation from scholars, students, and musicians in and outside of Africa. The journal encourages analytical rigor and yet in creative-critical theoretical purview. Ultimately, AAAM hopes to contribute to broadening the horizon and towards the production of new and significantly enhanced knowledge and appreciation of the musics of African and African-derived societies and cultures in time and place.

Our forthcoming Issue 2 is edited by Charles Lwanga (University of Michigan, Ann Arbor); we shall appreciate your support as we seek to build this initiative up through article submissions, reviews, etc. Please visit the journal’s website (https://africa.iftawm.org/journal/) for submission guidelines. For general feedback and questions, contact the Managing Editor Thomas Pooley at pooletm@unisa.ac.za and/or Editor-in-Chief Daniel Avorgbedor at perazimm@gmail.com.
